2. How are the cornerbacks going to shake out?

Pierre Desir was re-signed this offseason. Rock Ya-Sin was drafted this offseason. There are a number of other cornerbacks on the roster that have shown flashes at one point or another, but none of them have shown the consistency necessary to guarantee them a starting spot. Desir will be one starter but, with NFL offenses largely starting in three wide receiver sets, who will be the other two starters?

Ya-Sin has the physicality to match up with any receiver he lines up across from. His wrestling background gives him the strength to match up with anyone. The problem is that he doesn’t have the technical refinement yet to necessitate starting on the outside or in the slot. Kenny Moore has flashed some ball skills over the past two years, with four interceptions and 16 passes defensed, but he lacks the size to play outside. He’s also not a great presence in run defense.

The Colts were 16th in pass defense last season in terms of yards allowed. They didn’t always get their nose in the way of the ball as they allowed opponents to complete 70.8 percent of their passes against them. That number needs to improve this year. With this collection of talent, they’re hopeful that they will. There’s no guarantee though.
