1. Can the running backs continue to grow?

Last year, rookie running back Nyheim Hines nearly broke the record for receptions by a Colts rookie. Marlon Mack, if he had been healthy, likely would have been a 1,000-yard rusher for the team. Jordan Wilkins showed flashes, but he was mostly just a player to soak up snaps for Indianapolis.

They use the running game to set up the passing game, and they’ll need the running game to continue to progress this year to further boost the offense.

It’s highly unlikely that Hines ever becomes a three-down running back. Mack can be that guy if they give him more opportunities in the receiving game. His speed allows him to be a big-play threat when he gets the ball in open space. It will be up to the coaching staff to put him in the position to make those plays happen. Hines’ main focus needs to be on his running skills.

Wilkins could be the battering ram that the Colts need in the backfield in short-yardage situations. He has the size to make that happen. When the Philadelphia Eagles went to the Super Bowl, they did it with running backs that excelled in their roles. They didn’t do too much, but they all did their jobs. That’s what the Colts need. No player has to play out of his mind well, but can they just play at a slightly higher level than last year?
