With most of the moves made by now, we rank the 30 best ones made in the 2019 NFL offseason as teams tried to improve their rosters.
Every offseason, teams recalibrate as they hope to shore up their rosters and improve on the field. The 2019 NFL offseason might not be completely through, but we have seen most of the big moves play out.
Some teams made changes at the head coach position — such as the Cincinnati Bengals who moved on from Marvin Lewis after 16 seasons. Cincinnati tabbed former Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor as the Bengals’ next head coach.
Others shifted things at the quarterback position, like the Denver Broncos landing Joe Flacco in free agency and Drew Lock in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Missouri.
Whatever the moves were, we rank the top-30 moves made in the 2019 NFL offseason, beginning with a change at the head coaching spot for a long-suffering NFC South franchise.
30. Tampa Bay Buccaneers hire Bruce Arians
The move to hire Bruce Arians will have mixed opinions. He’s no spring chicken and there were health concerns for him down the stretch with the Arizona Cardinals, as he was 7-8-1, and 8-8 in his final two campaigns in the Valley of the Sun.
Having said that, Arians is a former NFL Coach of the Year and is great at getting the most out of his quarterbacks. That’s the key here as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are entering a big season for Jameis Winston.
The former No. 1 overall pick has had an up and down career and is entering the final season of his rookie contract. He’s also proven to be less than trustworthy off the field, as shown by his three-game suspension last season.
Still, Tampa Bay has invested a lot in him. So it makes sense to bring in a quarterback guru to try to find out whether he should become the first signal-caller drafted by the Buccaneers to make it to a second contract or not.
