30 best moves made during the 2019 NFL offseason

2. Jacksonville Jaguars sign Nick Foles
There was no clear-cut answer for the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason, as they had to make a tough decision at the quarterback position. In 2016, they made a huge investment in Carson Wentz, who they made a massive trade to acquire at No. 2 overall out of North Dakota State.
He started as a rookie and showed a lot of promise as a leader of the offense. Then in his second season, Wentz started to play like an NFL MVP, but that campaign ended with a torn ACL. With him sidelined, they turned things over to Nick Foles — who went from a forgotten former starter to a legend.
Foles led the Eagles to their first-ever Super Bowl win and even won the MVP in that game for Philadelphia. He then filled in for Wentz last season again, and took the team back to the playoffs and won their first-round game over the Chicago Bears.
Even with the offense seemingly running more smoothly with Foles, Philadelphia stuck with Wentz and sent the veteran into free agency looking for a new home. The Jacksonville Jaguars stepped in and gave him a four-year contract worth $88 million.
While that sounds like a lot of money, it’s only $4 million per season more than they were paying Blake Bortles ‚— who hasn’t delivered the kind of big-game performances Foles has in his career.
Now with a signal-caller they believe in under center, the Jaguars could be in play for the AFC South title once again in 2019. They were able to win that division in 2017 and nearly made the Super Bowl that year — where they would have faced Foles.
However, Jacksonville hit a rough patch this past season, as Bortles and the offense couldn’t get anything going, which clearly had a negative impact on the defense.
All that could change now with the addition of the Super Bowl winner, which makes this one of the best moves in the 2019 NFL offseason.
