4. RB Corey Grant
Don’t let the positional designation fool you, Corey Grant isn’t just a running back. The versatile runner can catch passes out of the backfield, line up in the slot and even return kicks. In fact, if the Packers were to sign Grant it’d probably be more so for his return ability than anything else. With receiver Trevor Davis offering little other value outside of his return ability, the Packers could be forced to look elsewhere as the receiving competition heats up in training camp.
Grant is a former undrafted free agent originally signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He’s known for his electric acceleration and speed out of the backfield. Over his short four-year career, he’s averaged 5.6 yards per carry on 81 total rushing attempts and a total of 6.2 yards per touch on 99 career touches. Grant has a career average of 23.6 yards per return on 41 kick returns. His 2018 season was cut short due to a Lisfranc injury and he only played in five games.
One reason the Packers might look into Grant is his familiarity with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. Hackett served as Jacksonville’s OC from 2016-18. Grant could probably be had on a cheap one-year prove-it deal. This is the type of low-risk, high-reward signing the Packers could use.
