2019 NFL Draft: Worst pick for each NFC West team
Seattle Seahawks: Marquise Blair, S (No. 47 overall)
The Legion of Boom is long gone and it’s time to rebuild with a young, cheap group of defensive backs in Seattle. One of the most important positions for the Seahawks defense is safety — not just any safety, but a player with elite athletic traits and ball skills. Marquise Blair has the experience playing single high and he’s a solid athlete but he wasn’t the best option available for Seattle to select.
Delaware safety Nasir Adderley is an overall better prospect than Blair. At Delaware, Adderley played both safety and corner with a tone-setter’s mentality. He’s not only physical but he’s able to back off and play single high. If they needed him too, he could also play corner. One of Adderley’s glaring strengths is his ball skills, a trait The Draft Network raved about:
"“Top shelf in efforts to convert opportunities into turnovers. Highlight reel over his career illustrates several high difficulty interceptions. Has high effectiveness in contesting at the catch point and length, hitting power and sense of timing mesh well to yield disruptions.”"
If any player fit what the Seahawks prefer, it was Adderley. It’s no slight against Blair but he wasn’t the best safety available. Adderley would have filled in at either free or strong safety, providing the Seahawks with a versatile weapon.
