The Dallas Cowboys agreed to bring veteran Randall Cobb into the receiving corps this offseason and he’s finding his role in the offense.

The notion that Earl Thomas wanted out of Seattle and wanted to join the Dallas Cowboys had been discussed for quite some time, even if that didn’t come to fruition. What some fans didn’t know was that then Green Bay Packers receiver Randall Cobb also wanted to leave his current team to join the Cowboys, per David Helman of DallasCowboys.com.

Even though Thomas didn’t get his wish, Cobb did thanks to the departure of popular slot receiver Cole Beasley. Cobb spent a lot of his time in Green Bay as a slot receiver, so it looks like he will fit right in with the Cowboys offense in 2019 with Beasley now gone.

Cobb signed just a one-year contract with the Cowboys, but he could be in Dallas for a long time with his versatility as a player. Cobb has been one of the most dominant receivers in the NFL since coming into the league in 2011 but was set back with a hamstring injury last season. If his hamstring heals and he is 100 percent by Week 1, don’t be surprised if he is back to old form.

With Beasley leaving for Buffalo, a big hole remained in the Cowboys offense since he was one of Dak Prescott’s favorite targets in 2018. The Cowboys’ receiving corps seemed to be lacking in some areas before Cobb joined the team. Cobb is comfortable in the slot and that’s where he prefers to play, so it’s likely that’s where the Cowboys are going to try to keep him.

While he can obviously impact the game working out of the slot, Cobb also has the ability to work from the outside and in the backfield. Cobb is a unique player and knows how to play multiple positions with precision on the offensive side of the ball — and special teams, if necessary.

Cobb is coming into 2019 with a new team ready to prove himself and has even a bigger chip on his shoulder. Coaches and players have repeated each other’s praises since Cobb signed with the Cowboys proving he is the type of player the Cowboys might need to get the offense going through the air in 2019.
