Drew Brees

  • San Diego Chargers (2001-05)
  • New Orleans Saints (2006-present)

Coming out of the Purdue University, much of the talk surrounding Drew Brees was about his size. Lacking the prototypical franchise quarterback size, Brees was still selected by the then-San Diego Chargers with the No. 32 overall selection in the 2001 NFL Draft, and quickly became the starter for the Bolts.

However, when the team decided to trade for Philip Rivers in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft in exchange for Eli Manning’s draft rights, the writing was on the way that Brees’ career in San Diego was coming to an end.

He would latch on with the New Orleans Saints for the 2005 NFL season. Boy, are the Saints glad he did, as he has had a Hall of Fame career ever since.

To put in perspective what Brees has been able to do is pretty hard, considering he is one of the shortest quarterbacks in the NFL, but also one of the best. In fact, he heads into the 2019 NFL season as the NFL’s all-time passing leader and is only 19 touchdown passes away from tying Peyton Manning for the league record (539).

During his time in New Orleans, Brees has not only set numerous NFL records, but he also has been to the top of the mountain, winning MVP honors during Super Bowl XLV. A 12-time Pro Bowler, Brees has twice been named the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year, and will go down in history as one of the best to ever do it.
