1. Ryan continues to play at MVP level

During the 2016 season, Ryan took home MVP honors after helping the Falcons reach the Super Bowl before their devastating collapse against the New England Patriots after throwing for 4,944 yards with 38 touchdowns and just seven interceptions.

This past season, Ryan put up similar numbers after throwing for 4,924 yards to go along with 35 touchdown passes and seven interceptions, but no one was talking about it as much since Atlanta finished with a 7-9 record.

In a way, Ryan didn’t exactly receive the kind of praise he arguably deserved, but also it’s easy to understand the frustration surrounding the team since making the playoffs was the ultimate goal, and these numbers seem meaningless without the accomplishment.

Of course, if Ryan can put up similar numbers, if not better, in 2019 while receiving extra help from a healthy Freeman and the defense, maybe the Falcons will, in fact, come through with that third playoff appearance in four seasons.

Ryan has received plenty of criticism throughout his career when Atlanta comes up short, but hopefully what took place last season is just the kind of kick the former MVP needs to provide a little extra motivation heading into September for the Falcons.
