He was the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2015 after former University of Georgia running back Todd Gurley was the 10th overall pick in 2015 by the then-St. Louis Rams. He finished his debut campaign with 1,106 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns in just 13 games.

One year later, Gurley was a 16-game starter but ran for only 885 yards and six scores on 278 attempts, a disappointing 3.2 yards per carry. A total of 29 contests added up to 2,506 yards from scrimmage and 16 touchdowns.

Then came new head coach Sean McVay and the talented performer became quite the all-purpose weapon. Gurley played in all but one game in 2017 and his 2,093 yards from scrimmage and 19 touchdowns earned him NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors.

This past season, he wound up missing the final two games of the regular season. But Gurley still rolled up 1,831 yards from scrimmage and a NFL-best 21 touchdowns. It adds up to 3,924 scrimmage yards (2,556 rushing, 1,368 receiving) and 40 scores in 29 regular-season outings under McVay.

So what does the future hold for the talented running back? There’s been a lot of talk surrounding Gurley’s health and his lack of effectiveness/playing time in the postseason vs. the Saints and Patriots. The Rams did use the first of three third-round picks on University of Memphis running back Darrell Henderson (as detailed by ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry). All told, it’s certainly a situation that bears watching.
