Parity is the way of the league which means that the 2019 NFL Playoffs should have a lot of turnover with these six teams who missed out in 2018 possibly making the cut this year

Every season it seems that roughly six NFL teams miss the playoffs after making it the season prior. This is due to the fact that the league has built a system of parity which allows teams to rebound quickly as they aim to keep every fan base involved.

Last season was a perfect example of the 50 percent turnover rule as exactly six teams failed to return to the playoffs. In the AFC, it was the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars who didn’t return. For the NFC, it was the Minnesota Vikings, Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons who were left outside looking in after being in the tournament the prior year.

The number was even larger the season before as eight teams that were in the 2016 playoffs didn’t make the cut in 2018. The AFC had it’s typical three team turnover with the Miami Dolphins, Oakland Raiders, and Houston Texans falling short.

However, the NFC was abnormally different from the season prior. The Atlanta Falcons, who made the Super Bowl following the 2016 season, were the only club to return that season. Five teams didn’t do as well in 2017 with the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks all underperforming.

With all that being said, it’s probably a safe bet to assume there will again be at least a 50 percent turnover. That was discussed earlier as we picked six teams who could potentially miss the playoffs in 2019. Now, we identify six franchises that could return to the postseason after having to watch this past season.
