Green Bay Packers: 5 Greatest receivers in franchise history
By Joe Kipp
The Green Bay Packers have a rich history of talent at the receiver position. We ranked the five greatest in franchise history.
Putting together a top five list for anything is never easy. It’s even harder when trying to rank a subjective matter like the NFL. And it’s almost impossible when trying to compile a ranking of the five greatest receivers in Green Bay Packers history. But that’s what we did.
With great names comes great success. The Packers boast four Super Bowls and 13 total championships over their franchise history. Much of that success can be attributed to stellar play at the receiver position. From the early days of Don Hutson, to the Lombardi era, then onto the days Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, the Packers have always seemed to have had a bonafide weapon on the outside.
During the compilation of our top five list, we used several criteria to form an opinion. Career production, longevity, overall skill-set and impact were all factored in. Projecting what a player could do in the future was not factored in (spoiler alert: sorry, Davante Adams). This type of assessment gives a fair balance of both subjective and objective viewpoints.
Players from all eras were eligible for our list. It should also be noted that statistics are relative to their respective eras of time, as well, which was factored in when assessing a player’s all-time standing in career receiving categories (i.e. the NFL has increasingly become more of a passing league, thus ‘inflating’ some modern players’ stats).
With so many options to choose from, there obviously had to be a few names that unfortunately fell short. Because of that, we also included three honorable mentions. So with everything else out of the way, let’s take a look at the five greatest Packers receivers in franchise history.
