A familiar face returned to the Dallas Cowboys tight end corps this offseason. Here, we look at how the group as a whole ahead of the 2019 NFL Season.

For years, the Dallas Cowboys were set at the tight end position as Jason Witten manned that spot from 2003 through 2017. Then, he unexpectedly hung up his cleats last season and took a job with ESPN calling Monday Night Football games.

With him in the booth, Dallas did very little to replace him. Sure, they had limited time as Witten told them as draft weekend neared, but that was also on them for not planning to ever lose a tight end in his mid-30s.

That being said, they turned to Geoff Swaim as the starter last season to kick things off. He was a solid blocker but didn’t really scare defenses in the passing game. The former seventh-round pick had just 26 receptions for 242 yards and one score in nine games played.

Swaim ended the season on IR after breaking a bone in his wrist in Week 11. Unfortunately, the injuries were a common thing during his time in Dallas, so he wasn’t brought back in 2019. Instead, he will be playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars this coming season.

As for the Cowboys, they will again have Witten back after his one-year stint at ESPN — which was rocky, to say the least. Here, we look at how the depth chart as a whole shakes out starting with the returning veteran.
