Breaking down the Dallas Cowboys 2019 tight end depth chart
By Randy Gurzi
The receiving threat: Blake Jarwin
One of the reasons Dallas didn’t reach for a tight end in the draft was their faith in Blake Jarwin. Undrafted out of Oklahoma State in 2017, Jarwin had no career receptions and just one appearance as a rookie. Still, he did enough in practice to convince the team he should be given a bigger role in his second campaign.
That ended up happening, but it was a disaster at first. It seemed as though every time he was on the field something bad was going to happen. Forced passes, errant throws, and tipped interceptions marred the start of his career — but then he started to put it all together.

Jarwin wound up with 307 yards receiving on 27 receptions and three touchdowns. Of course, the majority of that damage was done in a dominant Week 17 performance in which he caught seven passes for 119 yards and all three of his career touchdowns.
He added five receptions for 32 yards in the playoffs as he continued to be someone Prescott looks to as a safety valve. Unfortunately for Jarwin, the addition of Jason Witten seems like more of a progress stopper. He struggles some as a blocker meaning he needs to be the second tight end but that usually goes to a blocker on a Jason Garret-led team.
Of course, the wild card in this is new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Should he prefer a receiving threat at the position, Jarwin could end up with even more opportunities in 2019.
