NFL players most likely to reset the market at their positions
Running Back: Ezekiel Elliott, Dallas Cowboys
It’s always hard to figure out the running back market, considering the constant ebb and flow of the position’s value. However, if there’s any of the young runners who seem destined to cash in big in the near future, it’s Ezekiel Elliott.
Living up to the hype, the Ohio State product was an instant sensation, giving the Dallas Cowboys their first superstar running back since Emmitt Smith. Since Dallas made him the No. 4 overall pick back in 2016, he’s done nothing short of revolutionize the franchise’s ground attack.
Just look at this way: in three seasons, Elliott has won the rushing title twice, racked up over 4,000 rushing yards and found the end zone 34 times. His 4.7 yards-per-carry average through this point in his career is outstanding. If it wasn’t for the off-the-field concerns, you could make a case for him as a flawless player.
Either way, Elliott has been everything the Cowboys were hoping for and then some. They have no excuse to not pay him top dollar when the time is right. And unfortunately for them, that time is coming up rather quickly. Although he technically still has two years left on his rookie deal, you better believe he’ll be banging the table for a huge pay day very soon.
Is there any reason for him to not get it? No, as long as he stays out of trouble away from the gridiron.
