OL Kyle Kalis

With the trade of Zeitler for Vernon this offseason, the expectation has been that last year’s 33rd overall pick in the draft Austin Corbett would slide into the right guard slot in 2019. Not so fast says Kyle Kalis, as he has seen the first-team reps at right guard as Corbett has been playing predominantly with the second-team.

Undrafted out of Michigan in 2017, Kalis spent his rookie season with the Indianapolis Colts, where he saw action in four games, including two starts at right guard. He came to Cleveland last offseason and appeared in three games for the Browns with no starts.

The Browns gave up the least amount of sacks by a longshot the last eight games of 2018 under Kitchens, and if they hope to build on that success, then the right guard position needs to have a smooth transition from Zeitler; thus far, Kalis looks up to the challenge.

It is obviously very early in the offseason still, but Kalis seems to have the upper hand on Corbett in the battle for the right guard spot. This is winding up to be the most interesting position battle as training camp rolls around later this summer between Corbett and Kalis.
