4. New York Giants

In 2018, the New York Giants moved on from Jerry Reese and decided on Dave Gettleman as their new general manager. The hiring had mixed reviews, but after nearing the end of his second offseason those reviews are no longer mixed. It seems as though it’s universally accepted that Gettleman hasn’t been doing a great job with the Giants.

His list of mistakes are easy to see and they all started with his head coaching hire. With a list of up and coming names to choose from, Gettleman ended up taking Pat Shurmur who had a 9-23 record during his two seasons as a head coach with the Cleveland Browns back in 2011 and 2012.

That record doesn’t look much better after his 5-11 start with the Giants, as Shurmur is now 15-34 all-time (which includes a 1-0 stint as the interim coach with the Philadelphia Eagles).

Hope for that to improve is hard to find after Gettleman traded away wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. and used the top draft pick acquired in that move (No. 17 overall) on a nose tackle in Dexter Lawrence.

Gettleman also had the reach of the draft when he took Daniel Jones sixth overall. Clearly, Jones’ connection to the Manning family helped in this move as he looks like a clone of Eli Manning — but still seemed like a borderline first round pick, let alone a top-10 selection.

With all that being said, it seems very unlikely that the Giants will have much success in 2019. If they don’t, look for things to get really ugly — real fast.
