The 2019 regular season is just over three months away. What are the important numbers in regards to the reigning NFC South champion New Orleans Saints?

It’s a team that is seen its share of postseason heartbreak each of these past two seasons. In 2017, the NFC South champion New Orleans Saints disposed of the Carolina Panthers in the Wild Card Round, their third win over that divisional rival that season. And it looked look like the club was at least heading to the NFC Championship Game when they held a one-point lead at Minnesota in the Divisional Round.

But we all know it happened as then-Vikings’ quarterback Case Keenum found Stefon Diggs, who leaped and caught the ball and raced down the right sideline for a 61-yard score as time expired to give the Purple Gang a stunning 29-24 win.

This past season, Payton’s club was the top seed in the NFC playoffs. The Saints rallied from a 14-0 first-quarter deficit to beat the Eagles in the Divisional Round and owned a 13-0 lead after 15 minutes of play in the conference title game. But it would all come apart for Drew Brees and company in numerous ways in an eventual 26-23 overtime loss to the visiting Los Angeles Rams.

So here’s a glance at some pertinent numbers when it comes to the reining NFC South champions. So far, the series has taken a look at the Super Bowl LIII teams of a year ago in the NFL champion New England Patriots and the NFC champion Los Angeles Rams.
