Dallas Cowboys: 15 Best players in team history
By Randy Gurzi
The 1970s were a different era of football. Offenses weren’t as pass happy which makes comparing numbers to this era difficult. With that being said, the yardage put up by wide receiver Drew Pearson doesn’t do justice to what he meant to the Cowboys on the field.
Undrafted out of Tulsa in 1973, Pearson went on to earn three Pro Bowl selections and three First-Team All-Pro nods as well. He finished his impressive 11-year career with 489 receptions for 7,822 yards, which placed him fourth all-time in the team’s storied history.
To this day, Pearson is a beloved figure for the Cowboys and he’s the original wideout to sport the No. 88 which has been given to other stars such as Michael Irvin and Dez Bryant. Pearson also endeared himself to fans during the 2017 NFL Draft. While hearing boos from Eagles fans during the draft which was held in Philadelphia, Pearson reminded the crowd of how many rings the Cowboys had while flaunting his own.
That win for Pearson came as a member of the 1977 Dallas team. Led by quarterback Roger Staubach, America’s Team defeated the Denver Broncos by a score of 27-10. It ended up being the lone Super Bowl for Pearson, a member of the 1970’s All-Decade Team, but his legend lives on today.
