Some think the Los Angeles Rams will go only as far as running back Todd Gurley can take them. Don’t be fooled, they still have all the pieces to not just get back to a Super Bowl, but to win it.

It would be wildly premature to look at the Los Angeles Rams as anything less than a leading NFC contender for another Super Bowl in the 2019 season. I’ll go one step further and say that they are a smart pick for hoisting a Lombardi Trophy this season.

Some in the media “know” have already tied the fate of running back Todd Gurley to a potential downturn in Los Angeles. While it was obvious as early as last December that Gurley would be a concerning factor moving forward, it’s not a compelling indicator that the good times are over for the Rams.

Factually speaking, LA was guilty of one thing and one thing only: losing to the New England Patriots in a Super Bowl. It’s a long and illustrious list that they’ve been added to.

As for 2019, they may still be at the top of the list for not just contending, but winning it all. Granted, Gurley is a wild card given how they will handle him and his arthritic knee, but beyond that, the Rams are still formidable.

Head coach Sean McVay is still one of the best coaches in the NFL. He freely admits climbing too far inside his head before last year’s Super Bowl. His work ethic is also one that has translated to his players, as noted by new backup quarterback Blake Bortles.

The Rams won’t be a team who slides so far backwards as to fall off of the NFL postseason map. They are a veteran team who has been tested, and both won and lost. That said, this is the year where if they don’t bag a championship, the window moving forward gets smaller and smaller.
