The number seven has a double meaning for Anthony Lynn’s talented squad. A year, the Chargers’ 12-4 regular-season record included a 7-1 road mark (the team’s win in London over the Tennessee Titans was a home game). That was tied with the New Orleans Saints for the best road record in the league in 2018.

In this instance, it means something else. You get to the sense that general manager Tom Telesco and the organization feels very good about its roster these days. A quick look at the Chargers’ offseason veteran additions and the list is quite short. The club added veteran outside linebacker Thomas Davis, who was not re-signed by the Carolina Panthers, as well as veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor, late of the Cleveland Browns.

Even more fascinating may be the fact that Telesco used seven picks in April’s draft to bolster the club. There were no trades made and the Chargers’ executive used his original picks over the course of three days. Notre Dame defensive tackle Jerry Tillery was the team’s first selection and the 28th overall pick.

He was followed by safety Nasir Adderley (2-Delaware), tackle Trey Pipkins (3-Sioux Falls), linebacker Drue Tranquill (4-Notre Dame), quarterback Easton Stick (5-North Dakota State), linebacker Emeke Egbule (6-Houston) and defensive tackle Cortez Broughton (7-Cincinnati).

Is this the most talented overall roster in the NFL? Let the conversation begin.
