Jacksonville Jaguars: Nick Foles has chance to surpass Mark Brunell
By Larry Brake
Mark Brunell is the all-time passing leader in the history of the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, Nick Foles has a good chance to pass him.
Franchise quarterbacks are very difficult to find. Sometimes it’s easier to find a needle in a haystack than find the face of the franchise. Nick Foles might be the guy to surpass Mark Brunell as the all-time passing leader in Jacksonville Jaguars history.
Brunell is one of the most beloved Jaguars in the team’s history. He completed 2,184 passes for 25,698 yards with 144 touchdowns throughout his career in Jacksonville. Brunell was enshrined into the Pride of the Jaguars in 2013.
For all the great things that Brunell did as a Jaguars quarterback, though, he never led Jacksonville to the Super Bowl. Both he and Blake Bortles got the Jaguars into the AFC Championship Game. Foles, on the other hand, has been to the Big Game and won.
The Jaguars are the fourth stop in Foles’ career. He played his best in Philadelphia while struggling in St. Louis and Kansas City. Now, Foles is the face of the franchise in Jacksonville, not trying to earn a roster spot and playing time.
In his career, Foles has completed 974 passes for 11,165 yards with 68 touchdowns. He is ninth on the Philadelphia franchise passing list with 8,703 yards. Currently, as a Jaguars quarterback, Foles has zero passing yards. He has a lot of passing to do to surpass Brunell.
Remember, pro football is becoming more of a passing league. If Foles stays healthy, he could make a solid run at Brunell’s numbers, assuming both production and longevity. Foles signed a four-year deal worth $88 million in March. He will be 33 years old when his current contract is completed in 2022. Sometimes, age is just another number of measurement, just ask Tom Brady.
You might wonder how receptive are the Jaguars to Foles and his leadership ability. Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk had the following to report on that:
"When Foles talks, the Jaguars listen."
After a bitterly disappointing 2018 season, the Jaguars have quietly and strategically rebuilt the offense. There are high expectations for a winning season but most of all, Jacksonville has finally found their franchise quarterback and perhaps the best in franchise history.
