The current No. 2: Cooper Rush

In 2017, the Cowboys added an undrafted quarterback out of Central Michigan in Cooper Rush. The little known prospect came in with modest stats as he was good on less than 60 percent of his passes as a senior with 3,540 yards. In addition to that, he had a touchdown to interception ratio of 23 to 16.

Even with those less than impressive numbers, Rush came in as a rookie and won himself a job on the Cowboys thanks to his strong preseason. Rush was 38-of-51 passing (74.5 percent) for 398 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions.

As good as he was during that stretch, Rush’s second preseason was the exact opposite. Rush completed 62.3 percent of his passes for 358 yards with one touchdown and four picks. In the regular season, he’s appeared in just three games and was 1-of-3 passing for two yards.

There’s no telling what the Cowboys will get out of Rush should they ever have to turn to him. Thankfully, Dak Prescott has been incredibly durable which has made it to where Rush mainly holds a clipboard.

Still, they would have to feel better about their offense as a whole if Rush could return to his 2016 form this coming preseason. If he doesn’t, he could be in danger of losing his job to their 2018 fifth-round pick, Mike White.
