The second-year player: Mike White

The jury may be out on Cooper Rush, but his competition hasn’t stood out as exceptional just yet. Mike White was originally a quarterback for South Florida in 2013 and 2014. In that time, he completed 51.6 percent of his passes for 2,722 yards with 11 touchdowns and 16 picks. When the team switched to a spread offense, he transferred to Western Kentucky.

Once there, White made strides as a player. In two seasons as their starter, White was good on 66.4 percent of his passes and had more than 4,000 yards passing in each season. He finished with 8,540 yards with 63 touchdowns and just 15 picks in those two campaigns.

As the third quarterback in Dallas, he attempted 70 passes in the preseason with 414 yards and no touchdowns. He did throw an interception but showed progress each week that he was under center.

This could be a huge offseason for White as he aims to unseat Rush. He has the better pedigree as he was more efficient in his final two seasons, not to mention he was drafted whereas Rush was a free agent.

Either way, the Cowboys know they will see a decline should something happen to Dak Prescott. But they would probably feel better should White be able to make a leap and become their No. 2 quarterback.
