29. New York Jets (29)

The New York Jets seemed to be heading in the right direction last season as they finally found their franchise quarterback in San Darnold. He’s young and needs to grow some as a player, but Darnold flashed plenty of potential in his first season. However, he’s about to be challenged big time by the new regime — and not in a good way.

For some reason, the Jets decided to hire Adam Gase as their head coach despite seeing how he tore down the entire roster during his tenure with their AFC East rivals, the Miami Dolphins. Gase constantly battled with players and never had the results to back up his power-hungry demeanor. And sadly, it’s not as if he’s changed any.

Just days after saying reports of a rift between him and general manager Mike Maccagnan were erroneous, Maccagnan was fired and Gase took over as acting GM.

The thinking from the brass is that Gase’s experience as an offensive coach will help Darnold take the next step. There could be some truth to that, but what will the overall cost be? Ask the Dolphins, and they will tell you it won’t be worth it. Oh, and as a side note, he never actually helped their young quarterback improve.
