2. Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks are the most interesting addition to this list of potential trade partners, most notably because they traded away an edge rusher that they put the franchise tag on, Frank Clark, as they elected not to pay him with a long-term contract. Because of that alone, some people might rule Pete Carroll’s team out of this scenario regarding Clowney.

Having said that, the Seahawks defensive end situation isn’t particularly great. Though they drafted L.J. Collier in the first round in 2019 and signed Ezekiel Ansah late in free agency, the former seems like a developmental player that may not be ready to be an every-down performer while the latter is a guy that has battled a multitude of injuries throughout his career. Thus, breaking the bank for a guy like Clowney would, in theory, make sense to keep the Seattle defense playing at a high level.

1. New York Jets

The New York Jets‘ search for an edge rusher has been ongoing for quite some time now, but they still have no real answers. Sure, there’s hope in the Big Apple that 2019 third-round pick Jachai Polite can be a force off the edge but that’s a gamble at best. With the big moves they’ve already made this offseason, one more to acquire and lock up Jadeveon Clowney would really be icing on the cake.

Putting Clowney on the edge with Leonard Williams and Quinnen Williams on the inside would create a force up front for the Jets defense in a big, big way. This is a Jets team that clearly has eyes for competing sooner rather than later while Sam Darnold is on his rookie deal, which means that making a massive splash trade with the Texans could well be in the cards.
