Chicago Bears: 3 Storylines to follow in 2019 training camp
How does the kicking situation work out?
Yes, I know, all this talk about the kicking situation is downright nauseating now. It’s been going on since the team got rid of Robbie Gould after the 2015 season. They’ve struggled to try to replace him ever since.
The kicking game cost the Bears quite a few games, but the situation came to a head when it cost them the season last year. The Bears banished Parkey and brought in a small village of kickers to try to find one. At the moment it’s down to two of them, Eddy Pineiro and Elliott Fry.
Even though the battle is between those two, many feel that the ultimate winner of the battle isn’t even on the roster yet. There are a few veteran kickers available in free agency and others in a battle of their own on other teams. When cut time comes around, depending on how the two kickers the Bears have fair, the list of available kicker will grow and the team may just pick one of them.
It’s been a frustrating time for team and fans alike. That miss last season ruined what was a terrific season. Watching two teams the Bears felt they could beat play in the Super Bowl really hurt them.
One way or another the team will solve the kicker situation. Whether it’s solved in a good or bad way is another story. The Chicago Bears have done a good job at answering their other situations over the past couple of offseasons so hopefully, they put this entire kicking problem to rest. If they do, they could go bowling in February.
