5 NFL players entering contract year with something to prove
By Lucas Schuh
There are many NFL players entering contract years for the 2019 season but these five players have more to prove than most.
The 2019 NFL offseason has held several big free agent signings and contract extensions. We have seen Le’Veon Bell earn the money he wanted, Antonio Brown get out of Pittsburgh and got some more money from Oakland and numerous quarterback signings (and likely many more to come).
By position, quarterbacks have been handed out inordinately expensive contracts just so teams have stability at the position — even if the player doesn’t deserve that kind of payday. Receivers, meanwhile, are a bit different from quarterbacks as there hasn’t yet been a player at the position who has reset the market in a massive way.
For running backs, Bell was supposed to break the market open for other running backs. While he didn’t earn an exorbitant amount of money, he earned a good amount of guaranteed money, which could help out star veteran running backs.
Now with the signings slowing down a little bit, the focus is shifting towards the 2020 NFL season. With that, it’s only natural for everyone to also start looking a bit further beyond to the 2020 NFL offseason and players that could hit free agency or get contract extensions.
With that in mind, it’s a perfect time to dive into five players who have something to prove in the 2019 season. How they perform and acquit themselves will determine whether or not they’ll get an extension or even a big deal elsewhere in free agency.
