RB Kerrith Whyte

As I mentioned before, Pace overhauled the entire wide receivers corps and made it completely different from what he had. This offseason, he did the same with the running back unit. Howard needed to have the ball too much and he wasn’t the athletic tackle breaker that Pace needed so he shipped him to Philadelphia for a late round pick.

In addition to Montgomery and Davis in the backfield, the Bears have Tarik Cohen and they acquired free agent Cordarrelle Patterson. Even though Patterson is officially a wide receiver, he is actually a jack of all trades, being able to also be an effective kick returner (he scored a touchdown against the Bears on special teams last season) and runner on occasion.

In addition to those players, the Bears surprisingly drafted Kerrith Whyte from Florida Atlantic. Many figured the Bears were set at running back and Whyte wasn’t on many experts’ Bears radar. Some feel that Whyte will help the Bears on special teams. He will be great for the special teams. He ran a 4.36-second 40-yard dash, so he’ll do a good job of returning kicks with Patterson. That’ll give the opponents two poisons to choose from.

I feel he’ll do more, however. His speed can be great on offense. He is also very athletic and when he avoids tackles and finds the open field no one will catch him. I think he shows that explosive ability during training camp and preseason and he beats out Taquan Mizzell and Ryan Nall to be the main backup in the backfield. His speed and explosiveness will make him a fan favorite during training camp.
