Round 7, Pick 252: Taysom Hill, QB, BYU

Original Pick: Matt Dayes, RB, North Carolina State

Over the past two seasons, the Browns’ special teams unit has not been great. Adding a gadget player who is willing to do whatever it takes to make a roster like Taysom Hill would have been a great addition to wrap up their draft in 2017.

While Hill would not have transformed the special teams unit for the Browns over the past two years, especially in 2018 with one of the worst coordinators in Amos Jones running the show, he would have added a valuable player and another potential weapon. Instead, the Browns took running back Matt Dayes.

During his rookie year, Dayes only saw five attempts for 13 total yards and caught four passes out of the backfield for 29 yards. He was a camp cut during the preseason last year and has since bounced around the league; he is currently with the New Orleans Saints after making a pit stop in San Francisco 49ers along the way.

Hill has since tripled as an offensive gadget player, a special teamer on kick returns and punts, and an emergency quarterback behind Drew Brees and Teddy Bridgewater for the New Orleans Saints after going undrafted and signed and cut by the Green Bay Packers after the 2017 draft.
