5. Best NFL quarterbacks of all time: Roger Staubach

To this day, the Dallas Cowboys are known as “America’s Team,” but where did that name come from? The answer, according to Steven Mullenax of The Landry Hat, is that it came from Roger Staubach who was with the team from 1969 through 1979 and won two Super Bowl rings.

"“The Hall of Fame quarterback has all the hardware you could ever want. On top of his two Super Bowl rings, Staubach was a six-time Pro Bowler, NFL Man of the Year, a member of the Cowboys Ring of Honor and named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 1970’s. And he did it all despite not joining the league until he was 27-years old.” — Steven Mullenax, The Landry Hat"

Staubach was a favorite for many American’s not only due to his incredible play, and unbelievable ability to come from behind, but also due to his military service. A member of the Naval Academy, Staubach volunteered to go to Vietnam instead of requesting to stay in the states. Eventually, he finished his tour and joined the Cowboys, but that wasn’t until he was 27-years of age.

He played behind Craig Morton for two years as a well, meaning he became the most beloved player in tea, history despite not being a full-time starter until 1971 when he was 29 years old.
