28. Best NFL quarterbacks of all time: Bob Griese

When the AFL and NFL were still in the beginning stages of their merger, they held what was known as the Common Draft. In 1967, Bob Griese was taken in that draft after a standout career with the Purdue Boilermakers. Taken fourth overall by the Miami Dolphins, Griese quickly became their starter.

His first three seasons were a learning experience and they had a losing record with him under center in each of those campaigns. However, he started turning things around in 1970 when he and the Dolphins won 10 games. This was also the year in which Griese made his first-ever Super Bowl with Miami, a game they dropped to the Dallas Cowboys.

Helping Griese turn things around that season was Don Shula, the former Baltimore Colts head coach who worked incredibly well with the going quarterback. Following their defeat in Super Bowl VI, Miami made the next two Super Bowls and came out victorious on each of them. The second of those titles came in their perfect 1972 season, which was one that Griese had to watch primarily from the sidelines.

A broken leg in Week 5 ended his regular season but Griese was turned to in the Super Bowl to relieve Earl Morrall and he led them to their second title in as many years. A Hall of Famer now, Griese made it to eight Pro Bowls in his career and had a record of 92-56-3 as a starter in the NFL.
