27. Best NFL quarterbacks of all time: Ken Anderson
He may not be in the Hall of Fame, but he should be. Ken Anderson spent 16 seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals and was incredibly successful during his tenure. While under center, the team was 91-81 and had four campaigns with double-digit wins.
In 1981, he had his best season ever and won the NFL MVP after throwing for 3,754 yards with 29 touchdowns and just 10 picks. During his career, Anderson’s calling card was his pinpoint accuracy as he placed the ball in windows that other quarterbacks simply couldn’t.
A four-time Pro Bowl selection, his bid to the Hall is hindered by the fact that he never won a Super Bowl. However, that’s not a fair criticism as he did his part but came up short in his part in the postseason following his MVP campaign but the team came up short against Joe Montana and the San Francisco 49ers.
Anderson was also the ultimate team player as he was replaced late in his career by Boomer Esiason but remained with the club. The veteran was the backup for the Bengals for his final two seasons before calling it a career. That kind of loyalty to a team isn’t common any longer and the former MVP deserves some praise for that.
