7 Greatest Pittsburgh Steelers players of the 21st century
By Adam Patrick
1. Antonio Brown – WR
He may be with another team now, but it’s hard to argue against how impressive Antonio Brown was for the Steelers over the last handful of years.
Since 2013, Brown has been voted to the Pro Bowl six times and he’s earned four First-Team All-Pro selections. During this time period, the former Pittsburgh receiver hauled in at least 100 passes for 1275 yards and eight touchdowns during each and every season. It’s still hard to believe that Brown wasn’t taken off the draft board in 2010 until the Steelers used a sixth-round pick on him.
In nine years with Pittsburgh, he was able to develop into one of the best wide receivers to ever step foot on an NFL field, let alone put on a black and gold uniform.
Since his very first season in 2010, no other player in the league has caught more passes (837) or gained more receiving yards (11,207) than Brown. His 74 touchdown receptions over the last nine years are second to only Rob Gronkowki’s 79.
Brown is the only player in NFL history to have six seasons with at least 100 catches and 1,250 receiving yards. Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice only did this four times during his career in the league.
So what Brown has been accomplishing over the last few years has literally never been done before in the history of the league. Which is why he should be regarded as the greatest Steelers player of the 21st century.
It’s a shame that his tenure in Pittsburgh had to come to an end this year because it doesn’t seem like his level of play is going to slow down anytime soon.
