A young Dallas Cowboys roster has more depth and talent than they have had in years which could lead to some players stealing starting jobs in training camp

This season, there’s expected to be a lot of competition on the Dallas Cowboys roster. The front office has done a good job of finding young talent and that’s led to a deep roster — possibly deeper than they have had in years.

Dallas currently has a trio of decision makers putting this roster together, led by director of player personnel Stephen Jones. The son of Jerry Jones has been making the majority of the decisions, even though his dad still carries the title of general manager.

Jones works closely with Will McClay, who boasts the title of vice president of player personnel. However, McClay is more of the traditional general manager which can be seen in how he has turned that title down with other franchises in recent years.

They also take head coach Jason Garrett‘s opinion into consideration. Often called a puppet of the Joneses, Garrett has actually had more of an influence on this roster than any coach other than Jimmy Johnson and maybe Bill Parcells — although Parcells was overruled famously when he didn’t want Terrell Owens.

With them working together, Dallas featured one of the youngest starting teams in the league and still made the playoffs which are testaments to their depth and talent. That depth could end up leading to some players making a case for someone else’s starting job in 2019. With training camp just around the corner, we look at three players who could surprise us all and steal a starting job.
