NFL 2019: Predicting results for ‘prove-it’ year quarterbacks
By Randy Gurzi
Jared Goff, Los Angeles Rams
Carson Wentz wasn’t the only franchise quarterback in the 2016 NFL Draft who saw a team mortgage the future for his services as the Los Angeles Rams made a similar move to go from No. 15 all the way to No. 1 overall. They made their deal with the Tennessee Titans and gave up the No. 15 pick, two second-rounders, and a third-round pick that season. They also sent a first and third in 2017 to the Titans.

With their top pick, the Rams landed Jared Goff out of Cal and then watched him struggle mightily as a rookie. Working under Jeff Fisher, Goff was 0-7 as a starter and had more interceptions (7) than touchdowns (5). Then in 2017, he got a new head coach as L.A. hired Sean McVay and Goff started to turn things around.
In 2017, the won the NFC West as Goff had 3,804 yards passing with 28 touchdowns against just seven picks. He upped his yardage in 2018 to 4,688 while throwing 32 touchdowns and 12 picks. Not only did Goff and the Rams repeat as division champs, but they ended up representing the NFC in the Super Bowl this past season.
Despite his success the last two years, people are split on Goff. Some believe he’s a true franchise quarterback while others feel he’s a product of McVay’s system. Either way, Los Angeles is winning with him and they’re not likely to change that up.
Prediction: Goff signs multi-year extension ahead of the 2020 season.
