Looking ahead to the 2019 NFL season, we identify five players who could come from nowhere and end up being breakout stars for their team.

One of the best storylines to follow in the NFL is when a player comes from nowhere and winds up being a star. There have been several examples of this which range from one-hit wonders to players who end up becoming some of the best to play the game.

Peyton Hillis falls into the ‘one-hit wonder’ category as the bruising running back came out of nowhere in 2010 to put up 1,177 yards rushing for the Cleveland Browns. He took the league by storm and was even the cover athlete for the next installment of Madden Football. Unfortunately, he never recaptured the magic he had that season.

Then there’s stories like Kurt Warner and Tom Brady. Warner took over for an injured Trent Green in 1999 and ended up winning the MVP Award as well as the Super Bowl. Brady also won a title out of nowhere as he filled in for an injured Drew Bledsoe.

Warner became a Hall of Famer and Brady will surely be elected as he’s currently considered one of the best to ever play the game.

With all that being said, we look ahead to the 2019 NFL season and try to find the next breakout star that no one saw coming. These players my not have the same career path as Brady or Warner, but they could end up being huge for their teams this season.

Toughest Omissions

Devin Singletary, Running Back, Buffalo Bills

A third-round pick out of Florida Atlantic, Devin Singletary finds himself in a crowded backfield with LeSean McCoy, Frank Gore, and T.J. Yeldon. While those names all have great recognition, both Gore and McCoy are coming off down seasons which included just 514 yards for McCoy and zero touchdowns for Gore. They’re also 30 and 36 respectively.

As for Yeldon, he has yet to reply take off at the NFL level. All of that leaves the door open for the rookie to get plenty of snaps. His young legs will be needed at some point this season and he has the skill to take advantage of that.

Cameron Meredith, Wide Receiver, New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints took a chance on Cameron Meredith last season knowing his knee was in rough shape. He played six games for them and had 114 yards receiving and a touchdown. He needed more surgery this offseason but hopes are high that he can get back on the field in 2019.

Should that happen, he has the ability to make a difference. His last healthy season in Chicago saw him haul in 66 receptions for 888 yards and four touchdowns. New Orleans has been patient, and it could pay off.
