4. Mike Evans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Week 9

Mike Evans had a career year in 2018 that reflects his potential more so than anything we’ve seen from him thus far. He recorded 86 receptions, 1,524 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on his way to his second Pro Bowl appearance.

At 6-5, 231 pounds, Evans is a matchup nightmare for defensive backs. That’s part of the reason why he’s broken the 1,000-yard mark in all five of his NFL seasons. His size has also helped in the redzone. Evans produced eight receiving touchdowns per season.

A lot of what Evans can do depends on his quarterback situation. If Jameis Winston is the Buccaneers quarterback in Week 9 and he has a bad outing, then Evans’ production will suffer. The same can be said for any quarterback-receiver duo, but it’s especially true in this scenario.

Winston is at a point in his career where his days in Tampa and maybe even his days as a starter are numbered. Out of the quarterbacks for any wide receiver listed in the top five, Winston is the most volatile by far.

That being said, Evans was able to produce some great numbers last season with Ryan Fitzpatrick and Winston as his quarterbacks. I think Evans has great talent, but his quarterback play is holding him back at the moment. Consider what DeAndre Hopkins was able to do once he got a Pro Bowl passer in Deshaun Watson.

Evans is capable of a similar leap if he’s paired with a quarterback that can fully utilize his skills.
