NFL Offseason 2019: Every team’s best under-the-radar move

Dallas Cowboys: Randall Cobb, WR
Things started out really slow for the Dallas Cowboys during this offseason — which has become a staple of theirs. In the past, Jerry Jones has been all about writing the checks to bring in talent but now that his son, Stephen Jones, has taken more control of things, they’ve become much more patient. That patience made it seem as though this was going to be a wasted offseason as several names came in for a visit and left without signing a deal.
Then, one of those players wound up returning to put pen to paper. That player was slot receiver Randall Cobb who hit free agency after playing the past eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers. Not only does he give the offense more name recognition but it can be argued he’s a step up from a player they had just lost in Cole Beasley.
While Beasley had become a fan favorite, it was no secret that he wasn’t a deep threat. Beasley did his damage in shorter routes and has hit 600 or more yards just twice in his eight seasons. As for Cobb, he’s done so five times and once had 1,287 yards. He’s also a year younger than Beasley and while he struggled with injuries in 2018, he still had a 75-yard touchdown play which showed off his ability to hurt teams after the catch.
Cobb’s addition hasn’t received a lot of attention which could be due to the missed time in 2018. Even without the big publicity, the move was great for the team as Cobb came in cheaper than Beasley and signed just a one-year deal which gives them financial flexibility, which is needed considering all the players currently looking for new deals.
