Buffalo Bills: Dawson Knox, TE

Intent on putting weapons around quarterback Josh Allen, the Buffalo Bills went out in free agency and signed John Brown and Cole Beasley to compliment Zay Jones. It’s hard to find a prototypical No. 1 receiver in that trio, but all three are solid players who need to be accounted for.

They also landed Ed Oliver in the draft with the No. 9 overall pick. This was a bit of a fall for the Houston defensive tackle who was considered a possible No. 1 overall pick throughout much of the NCAA season. He was passed up by Quinnen Willims of Alabama as well as a few other players who played positions that better fit their team.

All those moves got plenty of attention, especially the Beasley signing. The former Dallas Cowboys slot receiver left Big D and was unhappy with how his time there ended. Beasley felt slighted by the organization since they apparently didn’t offer him a contract until Buffalo reached out. And when they did, it was less than what the Bills offered. Such is business, and Beasley could use that as motivation for a big season.

As for the less heralded moves, the best was their selection of Dawson Knox in the third round. The Ole Miss tight end was a projection pick as he wasn’t targeted often in the Rebels’ system. He finished with 39 receptions for 605 yards but never scored a touchdown. Even with the limited numbers, Knox is a good athlete with the ideal size for the position. He could even come in as a rookie and push free agent signing Tyler Kroft for playing time.
