Carolina Panthers: Matt Paradis, C

The Carolina Panthers 2019 season rests on the shoulder of quarterback Cam Newton — literally. The former league MVP had issues last season staying healthy and ended up being shut down once they were eliminated from playoff contention.

After the season ended, there were even rumblings that Newton could potentially miss time this coming season. So far, it seems as though that won’t be the case as he’s been able to work out and throw the ball this offseason.

Carolina did try and protect themselves some as they used the 100th overall pick on West Virginia’s Will Grier. A bit of a risk-taker, Grier played in an unfriendly system for the Mountaineers which didn’t show how good he can be. He may not ever be a full-time starter, but this is a solid backup for the Panthers.

He’s not their best under the radar addition though as they made some moves to help keep Newton healthy. Due to his style of play, No. 2 will always take a lot of hits but their offensive line had become a mess. The Panthers added two tackles in the draft in Greg Little and Dennis Daley. Little has a shot at starting right away and Daley has a shot to do so down the road.

One guy we know will start immediately is Matt Paradis. The former Denver Broncos center was added on a three-year, $27 million deal. It was a smart move as he plays arguably the most undervalued position in the league.

Teams that don’t have a good center understand what can happen without them, and that’s something Carolina won’t have to worry about thanks to this move that didn’t get the praise it deserved.
