20. Johnny Unitas and Raymond Berry, Baltimore Colts

The Baltimore Colts were the team to beat in the late 1950s thanks to a dominating duo leading them on the offensive side of the ball. Johnny Unitas and Raymond Berry were the elite quarterback and split end tandem in the NFL, leading the Colts to back-to-back NFL titles in 1958 and 1959.

Unitas, referred to as “The Golden Arm,” was named to 10 Pro Bowls, and won multiple NFL MVP awards. His favorite target Berry made six trips to the Pro Bowls and was a four-time All-Pro. Together, they formed a connection that is still regarded as one of the best in NFL history.

While both men enjoyed incredible NFL careers, they really stood tall during a contest that was named “The Greatest Game Ever Played.” Beating the New York Giants in the NFL Championship Game in overtime, the Colts were led by Unitas and Berry, who connected 12 times for nearly 180 yards and a touchdown.

The friendship that these two men had continued to grow even after their playing days ended. Berry actually gave the eulogy at Unitas’ funeral. In the history of the NFL, there have been few tandems that have taken over the league in the way that Unitas and Berry did. They certainly deserve a spot on our list of the greatest duos in NFL history.
