The 1972 Miami Dolphins are still the only team to run through the regular season with an undefeated record and then go on to win the Super Bowl. An incredible feat by any measure, the record has been challenged a few times, but it seems like this is a mark that could be one that lives on forever.

During those magical years for the Dolphins, the offense was led by a backfield tandem that will go down as one of the best duos in NFL history. With Mercury Morris at halfback and Larry Csonka at fullback, the Dolphins ran all over the rest of the league, culminating with back-to-back Super Bowl championships.

For Morris, he spent seven years with the Dolphins, making it to three straight Pro Bowls from 1971 through 1973, where he would be joined by his fullback Csonka. Csonka, who actually was a Pro Bowler every year from 1970 through 1974, was the MVP of Super Bowl VIII. He and Morris would become the first running back duo to each go over 1,000 yards in a season.

In the undefeated season, Morris led the NFL in rushing yards, thanks largely to the fact the Dolphins had a stellar offensive line and Csonka was his lead blocker. Both men were incredibly talented at toting the rock. The Dolphins have not enjoyed that kind of success on the ground since they finished up their run in South Beach.
