NFL: The 30 most incredible duos in league history
By Brad Weiss
25. Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier, Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers have a long history of having some of the more iconic players that have played in the NFL. The running back tandem of Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier is definitely one of them. Together, Harris and Bleier helped the Steelers on a magnificent run, winning four Super Bowls during their nine years together.
For Bleier, the journey to NFL stardom was a tough one, as he was wounded in Vietnam after his rookie season and had to fight hard to even walk without pain. Harris, however, was a star from day one, winning the 1972 NFL Rookie of the Year award, displaying an incredible ability to make players miss.
Aside from winning the four championships together, Harris and Bleier became only the second running back duo in NFL history to both men rush for 1,000 yards in a single season.
In 1976, four years after Larry Csonka and Mercury Morris accomplished the feat for the Miami Dolphins, Harris and Bleier eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark. This feat was something that was not accomplished again until Kevin Mack and Earnest Byner did it with the 1985 Cleveland Browns.
These two men will be linked forever and are a special part of the history of one of the more successful franchises in NFL history. The Steelers dynasty of the 1970s was one of the more impressive runs in NFL history. It would not have been possible without the exploits of Harris and Bleier in the Pittsburgh backfield.
