Houston Wide Receivers

The Houston Cougars are going to have one of the most explosive offenses in the nation this year. A large reason for that is their trio at wide receiver. Marquez Stevenson, Courtney Lark and Keith Corbin are all NFL-caliber weapons in the passing game.

Stevenson is the most electric of the group. He is a speedy weapon and long-ball threat. As the NFL finds roles for gadget players, Stevenson is set to thrive. He has a limited route tree to this point, but once he gets the ball, it’s over for the defense. He scored 11 touchdowns on 89 touches last season, his first as a starter.

Lark is a stiff receiver with limited ability to create after the catch. However, he averaged 15.4 yards per reception last season. Lark plays big on the outside. His athleticism is not at the same level as other receivers in this class, but he is a strong-bodied receiver that can win contested balls.

Corbin has probably the highest ceiling of the group. He lacks elite speed on the perimeter but he makes up for it with his strong hands. Corbin shields the ball from defenders and clamps down on the pass. He is a threat in the red zone and eats up yards on quick slants and crossers. Of his 40 catches in 2018, 10 went for touchdowns.

The Vikings continue to search for wide receiver help beyond Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs. Several guys have popped in and out of the rotation but none have proven themselves yet. Drafting more and more competitors will eventually lead to a solution, right?
