1. Alize Mack, TE

It’s no secret that the Saints have struggled with their tight end position since the loss of Jimmy Graham. Even with the few flashes by Benjamin Watson and Coby Fleener, the team has never found someone who connected as well with Brees. In training camp this year, though, the Saints have a few options at tight end and it’s going to be interesting to see who comes out on top.

One battle that’s been talked about majorly is between Dan Arnold and Alize Mack. Arnold was converted to tight end after being a receiver while Mack was drafted in 2019. As a rookie, it’s never easy to try to accumulate to the pros but battling for a position adds an entirely new level. Between the two, Mack is the one who has more to prove.

During his time at Notre Dame, Mack was a good, albeit not great, tight end. In his last season with the Fighting Irish, he put up decent stats including 34 receptions for 349 yards and three touchdowns. It was clear to see why he fell into the seventh round and the Saints snagged him but training camp is going to be where Mack can show that he’s a better fit than Arnold.

As a rookie though, Mack has to prove himself as both a good player and a quick learner. If Mack works on his blocking and fosters a connection with Brees, then his roster spot will be there. If not, then he might find himself on another team or a practice squad. The Saints are already going to have a tough choice when it comes to tight ends, so Mack’s performance is going to be indicative of what they decide.
