Even though it sounds like a long shot to consider at this point, if the Dallas Cowboys somehow are willing to trade Ezekiel Elliott, here are five teams who should be making the call.
Over the last three years, Ezekiel Elliott has helped the Dallas Cowboys become one of the top contenders in the NFC, and it’s difficult to imagine this team winning two of the last three NFC East titles without the star running back.
Sure, the argument can be made that running backs in the NFL aren’t as important as other positions since they’re easier to replace, but Elliott is clearly a rare kind of talent, and in a league of his own.
Just look at some of the impressive performances put together by the Ohio State product during the previous three seasons with his workhorse mentality, and it’s easy to make the case that Dallas scored big in the draft back in 2016.
With that being said, the Cowboys happen to be one of the latest teams dealing with a player unhappy over their contract situation, as training camp is officially underway, yet Elliott has been absent due to a holdout.
When comparing his current contract ($3.85 million base salary in 2019) to the production since 2016, there’s no question that Elliott is worthy of a hefty new contract, but whether Dallas is willing to give in is a different story.
As much as Elliott doesn’t want to hear it, the Cowboys have the advantage with the star running back under contract for two more years.
Until one side gives in, this news surrounding Elliott is only going to continue being the popular topic of discussion throughout training camp.
And while the thought of Dallas moving on from Elliott in a potential trade sounds insane to even think about, if it were to somehow become a possibility, here are five teams that should be giving the Cowboys a call immediately.
