Snubs

The two players who were severely snubbed were David DeCastro and Maurkice Pouncey. DeCastro came in 44th on the list last year when he was a First-Team All-Pro. He did not repeat as an All-Pro in 2018, but he’s still one of the best guards in the NFL. Only one guard, Zack Martin, actually made the NFL Top 100. I guess that means the whole position group was snubbed.

Pouncey’s snub was even more egregious. Despite being a Second-Team All-Pro in 2018, he did not make the list. The First Team All-Pro center, Jason Kelce, was given the 72nd spot on the list. You’re telling me that, in the last 28 spots, there wasn’t room for Pouncey? I don’t buy it. How can the second-best center in football not be one of the 100 best players in the game?

You might think I’m taking this too seriously. In a sense, I am. However, Tyler Lockett was ranked 98th on the list. Despite having his best receiving season, Lockett produced the fewest all-purpose yards of his career in 2018. Also, he wasn’t even among the 20 wide receivers who finished the year with 1,000 receiving yards or more.

I take more issue with players like Lockett making the list over guys like DeCastro and Pouncey than DeCastro and Pouncey being left off the list in the first place.

Pro Bowl left tackle, Alejandro Villanueva was also left off the list. That’s not surprising, though, considering where Villanueva ranks among the best tackles in the game.

Ultimately, the NFL Top 100 list is subjective for every player who votes and every person who watches and analyses it. It’s clear though that some Steelers did not get ranked in positions that matched their production while others were left off of the countdown entirely.
