1. New York Giants, Weeks 4 and 16 (Sept. 29, Dec. 22)

Here it is, the one NFC East divisional rival on this list: the New York Giants. I know you could argue it should’ve been the Dallas Cowboys because they won the division last year and are considered the Washington Redskins “biggest” rivals. You also could’ve picked the Philadelphia Eagles because they too made the playoffs last year and won the Super Bowl in 2017.

However, the choice is pretty obvious with the Giants. What storylines are there, you ask?

How about both teams taking a quarterback in the first-round of the 2019 NFL Draft (New York took Daniel Jones and Washington took Dwayne Haskins)? Or what about star safety Landon Collins signing with the Redskins this offseason after spending the first four years of his career with the Giants? You could even add cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to that.

How about bust offensive tackle Ereck Flowers? The Giants drafted him to be a bookend tackle but he looked miserable for three years before joining the Jacksonville Jaguars for a year (and struggling there too). Now he’s on the Redskins and they’re moving him to guard. If that works out well, it could be a major storyline between the two franchises for a long time.

If none of that interests you too much, how about the face-off of Saquon Barkley and Derrius Guice? Barkley was absolutely nuts last year and already has a legitimate case as the best running back in the NFL. Meanwhile, Guice tore his ACL in the preseason and still hasn’t played in a regular season game. He’s got all the potential in the world and could definitely be a great foe for Barkley.

Obviously, the two quarterbacks will dominate the headlines. Haskins vs. Jones has potential to be a fun rivalry to keep an eye on for over a decade. That’s not all there is to these two teams though. There’s a lot to keep anyone’s attention and only more storylines will develop.

It also helps that the two games are so far apart. The Redskins and Giants will have an early-season matchup while they’re still establishing their identities in 2019. Then, they’ll play right near the end of the year. Although both teams are projected to miss the playoffs anything can happen. Maybe that Week 16 matchup is determining a playoff spot, or even the division.

The Washington Redskins vs. the New York Giants will be an entertaining matchup to watch. Not just in 2019, but for years to come.
