2. Dexter Williams, RB

Rookie running back Dexter Williams has a huge opportunity ahead of him with Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams each nursing a hamstring injury. Both haven’t practiced for over a week, which has allowed D. Williams to garner the majority of the first-team reps at running back.

In fact, the Packers are so thin at the running back position that they signed veteran free agent Corey Grant and claimed Keith Ford off of waivers from the Indianapolis Colts. D. Williams still figures to get all the first-team work, however.

Though he was just a sixth round pick in this year’s draft, the Packers have high hopes for D. Williams, who is a tremendous scheme fit in new head coach Matt LaFleur’s offense. D. Williams comes from a zone-heavy running scheme at Notre Dame, similar to what LaFleur wants to do in his outside-zone scheme.

It’s been apparent in practices so far that D. Williams is an ideal one-cut runner in this type of offense, and it actually wouldn’t be surprising to see him surpass J. Williams on the depth chart by mid-season. D. Williams should get plenty of reps in Thursday’s preseason game against the Texans, and it’ll be interesting to see how he performs as Green Bay’s No. 1 option.
